Brewster Hut is a 12-bunk DOC hut at approximately 1,450m in the Haast Pass area of Mount Aspiring National Park — one of the most rewarding overnight hikes on the West Coast side of the Southern Alps. The track from the Haast Highway (State Highway 6) is short and steep: 4.5 km with 1,000m of elevation gain through beech forest, then an exposed ridgeline walk with views across the Main Divide. The Brewster Glacier, visible from the hut, has retreated significantly in recent decades — making this landscape one that is visibly changing, and worth seeing now. The east-facing aspect of Brewster Hut catches the last alpenglow on the peaks opposite; the sunsets here are well known among New Zealand trampers. Hand-drawn topographic art capturing the Brewster Hut Track and Haast Pass alpine landscape in Mount Aspiring National Park.
