Tucked between Wānaka and Queenstown, the Cardrona Valley holds some of Central Otago’s best stories. This print uses the historic Cardrona Hotel as its backdrop, and you’ll find it marked on the topographic map layered over the top. It’s a little pin for one of the region’s most loved landmarks. The hotel was built in 1863 during the gold rush, when Cardrona was a busy town with four hotels. It started life as the Empire Hotel. Behind its famous weatherboard front stood a small, single-story building clad in corrugated iron. The gold ran out and the town disappeared, but the facade is still standing more than 160 years later. Many people say it’s the most photographed building in New Zealand. This Print is for anyone who’s warmed up by the fire after a day on the slopes, or stopped for a pint on the Crown Range road.
