The Remarkables is Queenstown's most visible landmark — a straight-faced wall of schist rising to 2,319m above the eastern shore of Lake Wakatipu. The ski field at the top is reached by a 19 km road from Frankton, and the Summit Tee chairlift pushes into genuine high-alpine terrain with views extending across the full Queenstown Basin. The Remarkables' profile — jagged, horizontal, and improbably angular — is one of the most recognisable mountain silhouettes in New Zealand. Early European settlers named the range for exactly this reason: they found it genuinely remarkable. Standing beneath these faces in winter, with fresh snow on the vertical schist, it still is. Hand-drawn topographic art capturing The Remarkables ski field terrain and the distinctive ridgeline above Queenstown.
